UI Refresh
Project
Refresh UI of entire software suite.
Process
Collaborate with Engineering to identify opportunities to bring the UI forward while restrained by the resources available for this initiative. UI tech stack allowed for changes to be implemented using a derivative of CSS. Layout and architecture changes were not within scope.
Result
UI evolved from a dated appearance to a "flattened" style with relatively little effort within a compressed timeframe.

Inmate Dashboard 
Project
Provide an enhanced visual presentation of inmate population within a jail facility. Existing customer solution involved a manually updated spreadsheet which consumed over three hours per user daily.
Process
Conducted in-field research directly with users in order to design a solution that aggregated existing inmate information into a dashboard available to all jail staff. 
Result
All pertinent inmate data is now updated in real-time without the need for additional user interaction. Projected agency savings of one to two FTE annually.

Cloud Migration
Project
Migrate existing software suite to a web-based tech stack including significant changes to screen layouts. Workflow and screen functionality changes were out of scope initially.
Process
Redesign existing component library and apply new screen layouts to improve usability and reliability of entire application while maintaining a reasonably familiar interface. 
Result
After significant planning resources were not made available to pursue this work.

Effectively engage users in research activities.

Initiatives
Recruited and regularly solicited input from a group of users encompassing multiple personas.
● Regular surveys focused on upcoming roadmap.
● Provided for additional targeted research and discovery.
Conducted hands-on research with dispatch personnel during annual user conference.
● Presented subject with redesigned functional prototype of call taking workflow.
● Enlisted CS staff to pose as 911 callers to provide realistic scenarios to subjects.
● Measured execution times and collected qualitative feedback.
● Provided insight into disparate call flows and created positive user engagement.
Conducted over 40 on-site agency visits to conduct in-person research.
● Observed dispatchers, patrol officers, jail staff and fire crews.
● Research included shadowing, roundtable sessions, card sorting and usability studies.

Concept work to more closely align the UX/UI of the application with other products in the CentralSquare portfolio.
Process
Redesign existing component library and apply new screen layouts to align with Kevlar design system.
